The Karma Underground–a dedicated group of art-centric Angelenos: artists, photographers, filmmakers, writers, and event producers–support the people of Tibet and their goal of remaining a unique and unified culture. Last year, TKU’s first ever art auction raised over $10,000 for Karmablast, a non-profit group dedicated to building schools and monasteries for the Tibetan people.

This year’s benefit, “Oh Brother, Where Out Thou,” opening August 8, will be held at Angel City Brewery, and features live screenprinting from Hit+Run, and music from Alfred Hawkins and Coleman. The show will hang through September 5.  This year’s beneficiary is Tibet House U.S., dedicated to preserving Tibet’s unique culture at a time when it is confronted with extinction on its own soil. By presenting Tibetan civilization and its profound wisdom, beauty, and special art of freedom to the people of the world, Tibet House U.S. hope to inspire others to join the effort to protect and save it.

The organizing committee (Lydia Emily, Daniel Lahoda, Laura Shumate, Jenn Lafferty, Cindy Schwarzstein, Shana Nys Dambrot, Andrea Chia, Jerry A. Henry, Birdman, AJ Russo, and Heather Hoxsey ) certainly applied their good art karma to assemble a stellar roster for the TKU Second Annual Art Auction (Look at that list of artists! Wow!). We’ll have photos and previews of art plus coverage leading up to August 8’s benefit.
