South of Seventh Neighborhood Walk, Saturday September 20

Put on your walking shoes this Saturday, September 20 from 6pm to 9pm and get ready to experience the inaugural South of Seventh Neighborhood Walk, a community collaboration hosted by four galleries on the border of the Los Angeles Downtown Arts District, Cerre, CES Contemporary, Little Big Man Gallery and Wilding Cran Gallery.

All four of the galleries just opened within the last year, and Saturday’s collaborative event stroll  marks first coordinated schedule of events and openings for the participating Arts District businesses and highlights the sense of community that is growing strong in the area south of Seventh Street. Here’s what is on in these galleries which are uniting the South of Seventh community:

The Cerre, 801 Mateo Street Los Angeles, CA 90021
Cerre focuses on combining French elegance and tradition with effortless Californian style.  The collection is comprised of clean modern essentials with an emphasis on the perfect leather jacket and paired accessories.  The use of luxurious materials, subtle tailoring and exquisite couture like craftsmanship create a timeless wardrobe that is as sophisticated as it is wearable.

In July 2014 Cerre opened a new showroom / atelier concept in downtown Los Angeles.  The appointment only space was designed by Cerre to engage the clientele in the world of the brand and the process of the collection which is designed and made by hand on site.

CES Contemporary, 709 & 711 Mateo Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021
CES Contemporary specializes in local and international emerging contemporary art. The gallery pursues and supports the development of young artists, with the mission to encourage and display works that are progressive, challenging and cutting edge.

“Arrangements,” a solo exhibition of recent works by Stephen Eichhorn of hand-cut collages will be on view in the Main Gallery, and “here to go,” a solo exhibition by Greg Stimac in the Focus Space will feature work from his Driving Photograph series. The pair of shows will be on view September 20, 2014 – October 26, 2014.

We have been covering the openings at CES Contemporary since they first opened in the Arts District, when they were located in Laguna Beach and on the art fair circuit.

Little Big Man Gallery, 801 Mateo Street, Los Angeles, CA 90021
Little Big Man Gallery is committed to exhibiting works by both established and emerging photographers. With a dedication to showing challenging photography that goes beyond the classification of often conventional Art or Documentary style photographs. The gallery is a natural extension to publishing at LittleBigMan Books breathing the same vigor that has been established with their books out onto the gallery walls.

“All In–Buying Into the Drug Trade” by photographer Graham MacIndoe will be on view from September 20 – October 31, 2014. This will be MacIndoe’s first solo exhibition in the U.S. and also celebrates the release of a limited edition book by Little Big Man Books. Each image from All In is a variation on a single object: a small glassine heroin bag stamped with an exotic or bleakly satirical brand name, all collected by MacIndoe when he was an addict.

Wilding Cran Gallery, 939 S. Santa Fe Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90021
Naomi Wilding and Anthony Cran established Wilding Cran Gallery in 2012 as a virtual platform committed to supporting the practice of contemporary art by emerging, mid-career and established artists.  In April 2014, the gallery launched a physical space in the Arts District of Los Angeles to connect with the growing art community and be a platform to present the gallery’s expanding roster of contemporary artists.
Theatergarden Beastiarium, a new body of work by Vikky Alexander, will be on view September 20 – November 1, 2014.  The exhibition marks Alexander’s first solo show at the gallery. Theatergarden Beastiarium presents the artist’s latest photo-collage work and explores her ongoing tension between nature and culture.  Refreshments will be provided by neighboring restaurant Bestia for the Artist Reception during South of Seventh.
