Council District 14 Supports Cartwheel Art Tours During Bloomfest LA.

Posted by

a780As a special part of November 8th’s Bloomfest LA 2014 programming, Council District 14 is supporting four free Cartwheel Art Tours through the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District. These guided tours — created, produced, and led by Cartwheel Art founder and Arts District resident Cindy Schwarzstein–provide participants the opportunity to  intimately discover, explore, and experience local artists studios, galleries, murals, and other creative-use spaces throughout the day. Joining Cindy along the way will be other Arts District insiders who will offer additional details and perspectives on this vibrant and vital neighborhood.

Cindy, a Los Angeles River Artists and Business Association (LARABA) and All City Mural Endeavor (ACME) board member, designs tours that offer opportunities for visitors and locals to immerse themselves and engage in the culture and history of the Arts District. Based in the Arts District, Cartwheel Art is deeply connected to the history art, food, and new developments occurring in the neighborhood.

The Bloomfest LA tours include an updated and and newly designed, larger formatted Arts District map and guide created by Cartwheel Art that supports the artists and creative businesses in the Arts District, many of which are our neighbors and partners with Cartwheel Art Tours. We will be updating this map quarterly in order to offer, the opportunity for visitors and locals to be informed of the changes rapidly occurring in this unique, dynamic and art-centric part of Los Angeles: the Arts District, where we live and work!

These are walking tours. Please wear comfortable walking shoes. Sunglasses, sunblock, sunglasses and hats are recommended, and it’s a good idea to have a bottle of water. Because the temperature can drop after 4pm, a light sweater, jacket or shawl might be wise for the last tour.

About Bloomfest:

Bloomfest is the day to honor Joel Bloom, a pioneering urbanist, advocate and the area’s unofficial mayor in the mid-90’s who died in 2007. It was Joel Bloom who successfully petitioned the city to designate the area the “Arts District,”,anchoring the neighborhood as a creative hub for downtown Los Angeles. From improving city services and nurturing the artists’ focus and direction, Joel worked tirelessly from the helm of his eclectic general store in the American Hotel on Traction and Hewitt Street. In his honor, the city designated the area around Third, Traction and Rose as Joel Bloom Triangle, which is why we have chosen the triangle as the core location for Bloomfest.
