The LA Art Show returns to the Convention Center, January 14 to 18, featuring an international array of art ranging from classical and historical to modern, contemporary and edgy. The West Coast’s oldest and most comprehensive fair is celebrating its 20th anniversary with special programming, panels and tours that reflect the greater Los Angeles area and our place as multicultural center,as well as fine art showings from national and international galleries.
It’s an exciting four days of seeing art, buying art, and learning about art in one of the world’s greatest cities for public art (both commissioned and rogue!). This year’s opening night reception benefits St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, with the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates as the featured guest.
Over the past two decades the LA Art Show has grown to become the most internationally diverse art platform in the Western world, bringing in the largest groupings of Korean, Chinese and Japanese galleries outside of Asia. The show also has strong focus on Hispanic artists from North, Central and South American and the Caribbean. Beginning in 2010, the LA Art Show has actively developed its international gallery offerings to provide collectors with a opportunity to spot international trends and zeitgeist through art, a medium that has the ability to transcend language. This keen focus has been a hallmark of the show.
This year the LA Art Show will present more than ten special exhibits and curated spaces. Hailed by critics, the provocative special exhibits showcase has a long history of offering a platform for some of the most influential artists on the international art circuit as well as launching emerging talent. Over the last twenty years, the show has consistently been ahead of the curve in featuring what’s now and next in art. The 2015 event presents curated exhibits by established and well-known artists, and another sneak-peak at up and coming art trends and names-to-watch.
Dialog LA panels include several focusing on Los Angeles art and artists, including Public Art Land Grab: The Gold Rush Economy of LA’s Mural Renaissance, presented by The Mural Conservancy of Los Angeles (MCLA) with Isabel Roja-Williams, LA City Council Member Mitch Farrell, Cheech Marin, Ed and Brandi Sweeny and others; What is Public Art and Who is it For? featuring Shana Nys Dambrot, Brad Howe and Robbie Conal amongst others; and The Arts District: The Development of an Art Scene and the Art of Development presented by Cartwheel Art and with The Arts District Alliance, a project of Arts District Community Council LA (ADCCLA).
Cartwheel Art has created a special tour for the LA Art Show, tying together public art, murals and the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District on Saturday, January 17. The tour, which is covered under a separate ticket, compliments and enhances panels and exhibitions, including the Cartwheel Art exhibition “Dark: Progressivism: Metropolis Rising.” The bus-and-walking tour begins and ends and the LA Art Show. Tickets are $47.50 at Eventbrite.
Tickets for opening night, Wednesday, January 14 from 7pm to 11pm range in price from $125 to $250, while a four day pass is $40 and a one day pass $20. Tickets are available through Eventbrite. The Convention Center has its own Metro stop on Blue Line and Silver Line. Parking ranges from $12 to $20.
The fair is open to the public Thursday, January 15 through Saturday, January 17 from 11 am to 7pm; and Sunday, January 18, from 11am to 5pm.
