The 2015 international photographic art exposition photo la runs from Friday, January 16, through Sunday, January 18, at The REEF/LA Mart in Downtown Los Angeles.

Now in its 24th year, photo la brings together leading galleries, museums, universities, and nonprofit organizations for an unparalleled showcase of photographic art from around the world, from 19th Century masterpieces to contemporary, cutting-edge photography-based work.

As in previous years, photo la will include a diverse range of programming, including panel discussions, educational workshops, and curated installations that foster an ongoing dialogue about the changing landscape of photography and its role in the art world at large. Says Claudia James Bartlett, director of photo la:

Stephen Cohen founded photo la in 1992 to unite and support the international community of experts, enthusiasts, collectors, and artists who share a love of photography and our unique combination of gallery installations, curated exhibits, and programming support this mission.

On Thursday, January 15, photo la launches with its annual Opening Gala. This year, the Gala will honor Catherine Opie, one of America’s preeminent documentarians, and her lifelong contributions to the arts. Additionally, photo la will feature an installation of Opie’s work, which will be on display for the entirety of the weekend.

Tickets for the Opening Gala are $80 in advance or $100 at the door, with proceeds benefiting the United Way of Greater Los Angeles and The Painted Brain, a Los Angeles-based arts organization. General admission to photo la is $20 in advance; $25 at the door. A three-day pass is available for $35 online; $40 at the door. Programs are ticketed separately. A limited number of all-access passes, which include admission to the Opening Gala, the three-day photo la exposition, and all of its programs, is available for advance purchase at $450. Tickets can be purchased online at: www.photola.com.

The 2015 photo la Gala, exposition, and programs will take place on the second floor of The REEF, located in the historic LA Mart building at 1933 S. Broadway in downtown Los Angeles. The REEF/LA Mart offers affordable onsite parking, and is also accessible by Metro. With the LA Art Show taking place simultaneously at the nearby Los Angeles Convention Center, photo la will provide free shuttle service between the two fairs, once again creating a destination arts weekend in the heart of LA. For out-of-town visitors, The Standard Hotel Downtown LA is offering special rates for photo la guests, with discounted daily rates starting at $185 with the promotional code PHOTOLA.
