The Museum Latin American American Art issues a call to artists: To honor Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead), ofrendas, altars celebrating the dead, by local artists will be the focus of a  MOLAA show, “MOLAA Día de los Muertos Community Ofrendas,” opening October 21st and running through November 29th.

Individual adult artists, artist collectives, individual youth artists ages 11-17, classrooms, youth groups, and student clubs are invited to participate. Traditional and contemporary interpretations of ofrendas will be accepted. Artists will be provided with a pre-constructed wooden structure (either tiered or flat) onto which to build their ofrendas, unless they request otherwise. Artist-built structures must be approved by MOLAA Education staff. Artists must provide all other materials, included linens and hardware, if applicable. Organic materials (e.g. plants, soil, or food) are not allowed. Open flames are also not permitted. Only a limited number of artists will be selected to participate!

In addition to the displays, unique/original ofrendas  will be chosen for recognition and honored by a jury of MOLAA staff and local artists with prizes including cash and MOLAA memberships. Originality of design and a clear and consistent theme, and the quality of objects will be considered when selecting the outstanding ofrendas.
