Beyond Eden“–the multi-gallery event at the LA Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park celebrating the New Contemporary Art Movement–is the fall season’s major art event. This year marks the fifth and final year for “Beyond Eden.” The the event opens October 3, with a reception open to all from 6pm to 11pm. Sunday the gallery is open from noon to 5pm. Admission for each day is $5.

The success of “Beyond Eden” has been an important force in propelling international awareness of New Contemporary art, birthed in Los Angeles and which includes Kustom Kulture, Low Brow, Pop Surrealism, Dark Progressivism, West Coast Street, and Neo-Classical Narrative styles. The New Contemporary Art Movement continues to build momentum on an international level, receiving mainstream recognition from major institutions and publications the world over–all which has enhanced Los Angeles’ recognition and reputation as an important art city.

Sadly, because of rising costs associated with the City of Los Angeles which owns the LA Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Park, this will be the last year of Beyond Eden, which has consistently drawn an average over 5,000 people over its past four annual weekends.

This year Beyond Eden 2015 will showcase the works of five of California’s finest New Contemporary art galleries. Participating galleries include C.A.V.E. Gallery (Venice, CA), Copro Gallery (Santa Monica, CA), Spoke Art (San Francisco, CA), Hashimoto Contemporary (San Francisco, CA) and event organizers Thinkspace (Culver City, CA).

In addition to the works on display from the participating galleries, Beyond Eden 2015 will also feature special solo showcases from both Meggs, Mear One and Chuck Sperry. “Paving Paradise” from Meggs will feature an array of new works from the Australian artist along with a large-scale painting / mural for all to enjoy. “Cognitive Dissonance” from Mear One will showcase some of his largest and most iconic paintings to date. “Muses LA” by Chuck Sperry is a new collection of his contemporary-classical muses inspired by the spirit of modern rock poster art, graffiti art, the spirit of 1960’s psychedelia, and in broader terms, inspired by the perennial theme of Orphic Dionysian mysteries.

Live painting demonstrations on the gallery’s balcony will also be taking place during the opening reception on Saturday night. There will also be a tribute to The Pizz, one of the progenitors of New Contemporary, whose sudden death left the his peers and fans stunned and bereft.

Beyond Eden is presented by Arrested Motion, Cartwheel Art, City of LA Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA), Hi-Fructose, Juxtapoz, Platinum Cheese, Reverberations Media, Sour Harvest, and Supersonic Electronic.
