Here kitty, kitty, kitty! Dr. Paul Koudounaris is back on the lecture circuit, arriving with a splash tomorrow, February 4 at The Last Bookstore. The renown award-winning author of Empire of Death, Heavenly Bodies and Memento Mori, Koudounaris is probably the only author who gets sent well wishes from beyond the grave by the spirits of the skulls he visits and documents. The world of the living also holds a peculiar appeal for Koudounaris: He is known internationally as the scholarly expert on the strange history and lore of domestic pets.

In his lecture and slideshow, “Ship Cats: Adventure, Courage, Betrayal!” at The Last Book Store, Dr Paul K will be delving into the lives of ship cats, sea-faring felines who did much more than purr alongside pirates and shed on sailors. Learn all about Oskar, the cursed cat of the German battleship Bismarck; Trim, who helped map the coast of Australia; Nigeraukak, a cat who survived an arctic winter with a shipwrecked crew; and of course our own local hero, Pooli, a Los Angeles feline who won four battle stars.
