jami_polaroid RevisedThis Sunday, May 22, acclaimed Southland painter Ed Gutter releases his latest artwork, Speakeasy, in new format, as a limited edition tee shirt that includes a print and button, at a one-day only pop-up event at Til Death Studio.

Tee shirts have become a highly valued collectible, with some vintage band tees going for up to $750. Gutter—a fine and graffiti artist whose work has been featured in shows from Ventura to San Diego, including a special exhibition at the 2015 LA Art Show—collaborated with model Lipstik N Ink to create Speakeasy,  based on the Polaroid above, in a multi-media format. The art shirt, which comes with a matching button and small print, costs $30. Says Gutter:

Instead of making a limited edition print which could only hang on a wall, I’ve made Speakeasy into art than can go anywhere.

This crossover of fine and street art is part of the Dark Progressivism aesthetic with which Gutter is affiliated. Gutter’s work has hung in two Dark Progressivism shows, and he has participated in art shows to raise funds for Homeboy Industries.

Gutter, a Southern California native honed his art skills through graffiti and tattoo, and focuses his work on scenes from real life.

Gutter will present Speakeasy at Til Death Studio in Pico Rivera. Til Death tattooists Phowl and Tyson appear in the documentary film Dark Progressivism, which made its festival debut at Newport Beach Film Festival in April.

The pop-up one-day-only release of Speakeasy will feature DJs and barbecue, and allowing collectors to get to know the artist and his brand in a welcoming venue unlike a typical gallery.
