Coverage: TEN OC 2017 & Michael Hsiung at Artists Republic Gallery

Artists Republic Gallery, who opened their doors as A.R.4.T. – Artists Republic 4 Tomorrow – in Laguna Beach on May 30th, 2010, has begun a new chapter with a move to GardenWalk in Anaheim.

Artists Republic Gallery works with artists who make amazing works in the studio and are also leaders in life – travelers, curators, musicians, skateboarders, surfers, teachers, builders. These people are the vanguards of our day, shaping the way we see and feel the world. The gallery, stands in support of them, offering not just original art works, photographs and prints …. but an open invitation to join in the fun.

The grand opening kick off which was on February 25th, 2017, featured works of New Contemporary artists living and working in Southern California.

In Artists Republic solo exhibition space was “Autobiomythographical” a collection of new works by Michael Hsiung. Michael is a Los Angeles native working as a full time artist, who was recently awarded gold in New Zealand’s Best Graphic Design. His pen and ink illustrations consist of mythology and narrative with a hint of humor within each image. With a background heavily embedded in surf and skate culture, Michael is a fun artist to be exhibiting for the new chapter at Artists Republic. In their group space was the third annual TEN exhibition – with works from ten prominent Orange County artists selected because of their talents and impact that they have made on the OC art community and beyond. One of their most popular shows, this year’s TEN show highlights work from Averi Endow, Ben Brough, Brian Bent, Diana Markessinis, Laurie Hassold, Michelle Bickford, Patrick Carrie, Randy Noborikawa, Cody Jimenez and Tyler Spangler, and includes sculpture, 2-D and 3-D art pieces. Both exhibitions are up through March 26th, so there’s still time to check it out. We recommend joining them for the special programming on Thursday March 23rd from 6pm – 9pm, when GardenWalk will be celebrating their grand opening. It’s during the GardenWalk opening celebration when Monster Draw, will be occurring. Monster Draw is where they invite 15-20 local artists to live paint in the area around/inside the gallery.
