Coverage: Essi Zimm, Ten Hundred, Konecki at the Gabba Gallery

There were three solo show’s that opened at the Gabba Gallery, on Saturday March 25th.

Essi Zimm’s much anticipated yearly show filled the first two rooms of the gallery. Titled “Happenstance”, the art in her show, centered around constellations and their mythology. Using collage, paint, bright colors and patterned Japanese paper, the works in the show, embraced the linear, reminding me of the lines found on astrological charts. Brightly colored animals from mythology and more common astrological images felt whimsical and childlike.

Stepping into the third room at Gabba, was Ten Hundred’s paintings of another world and the beings you might find in that world. Titled “Variegated Visions”, Ten Hundred drew his inspiration from comic books, anime and a wild imagination. Vibrant colors were skillfully rendered, and the works showed slices of life from his imaginary world.

In the last room, were Sculptures and paintings that came together in Konecki’s show. With “Apathesis” as the title of his show, he explored the current sociopolitical climate asking if apathy could take hold as a societal thesis. Very imaginative and incredibly crafted, Konecki’s work spoke to breaking out of redundancy as a natural, although sometimes, hodge podge, evolution.
