Tour Coverage: Cartwheel Art Tours x Women Who Whiskey in DTLA for “The Art of Whiskey” (Sunday October 29th)

This was a super fun tour designed for Women Who Whiskey – Los Angeles with Kim Ohanneson, that was offered as a pre-Halloween version of “The Art of Whiskey” for our partnered tour series.

Our founder Cindy Schwarzstein led the custom walking tour that combined elements of Cartwheel Art Tours Underground L.A. and Art and Artisans tours.

The experience that occurred on the late afternoon of Sunday October 29th, included viewing of evocative murals above and below the streets of Downtown Los Angeles, and private access to a defunct, former, underground speakeasy (that’s not open to the public, but accessible through Cartwheel Art Tours).

In the historic speakeasy, we viewed original murals, one of which is rumored to be a map showing the way to illicit underground bars, while others show some of the tunnels that bootleggers used for smuggling alcohol during Prohibition!

During our walking tour we made a stop at Indian Alley, where we met with the curator of the alley murals, and learned about the history of the alley and his building that houses These Days L.A..

After our walking tour we redeemed our souls by raising a glass to spirits past and present at The King Eddy, with a batched cocktail and guided tasting of Redemption Whiskey! Rye was the #1 spirit in pre-Prohibition America and Redemption is leading the Rye Revival with rye-forward whiskeys modeled after their pre-Prohibition ancestors. It was Brand Ambassador Matt Klette who provided a tasting for us through four expressions of their deliciously spicy, cocktail-friendly whiskey.

Check out the photos below of the fun we all had together, which included almost 50 whiskey loving enthusiasts! Additional photo’s can be found on Cartwheel Art Tours Facebook page.
