Join our Downtown Los Angeles neighbors the California Chinese American Museum, for the opening reception of the “Don’t Believe the HYPE – Los Angeles Hip Hop” exhibition on Friday, May 18th.

Don’t Believe the Hype: LA Asian Americans in Hip Hop looks into hip hop in the greater Los Angeles region as a site of resistance, refuge, and reinvention for today’s Asian American communities. The exhibition will include site-specific murals as immersive environments by famed hip hop graffiti and mural artists as well as paintings, photographs, audio/video installations and historical ephemera.

Participating visual artists:
DEFER, Gajin Fujita, Hueman, Kenny Kong, Nisha Sethi, Farah Sosa, Shark Toof, SWANK ONE, and Erin Yoshi.

Additional Participants: 
Featuring media and documents from B+ for Mochilla, Beat Junkie Institute of Sound, Culture Shock, organizers of the Firecracker music series Daryl Chou and Alfred Hawkins, and the performing artists Jason Chu, DJ Rhettmatic, and DJ Babu.  (SETI X canceled due to a scheduling conflict)
