Meet Artists (And Buy Their Merch) at Mercado Los Olvidados #3 – Friday, September 21 to Sunday, September 23
The pskaufman… gallery, located in Downtown Los Angeles, will host the third annual Mercado Los Olvidados next weekend. Footwear designer Paul Kaufman, who co-created the pop-up marketplace with artist Camille Rose Garcia, says,
“It’s an artists’ market that’s different from other markets in that it’s a little more merchandise driven, with small exclusives that the artists make just for the market.”
Mercado Los Olvidados will feature exclusive work by artists from Los Angeles and around the world—including Camille Rose Garcia, Ciou, Nicomi Nix Turner, Adam Wallacavage, Jessicka Addams, Matt Darling, Bryn Perrott, Travis Lampe, David Cook, Panca, Kristina Drake, Natasha Lillipore, Jennybird Alcantara, Bittersqueaks, Gretchen Lewis, Tripper Dungan, Malojo, Lisa Vanin and Show Pigeon. Emily Kay will be tattooing on site, and Erica Weitz will be making tintype photography portraits. Other artists couldn’t make it in person, but sent art for the market, including Mab Graves, Camilla D’errico, Arrington DeDionyso, Ramon Maiden, Kristen Liu-Wong, Luke Pelletier, Ara Cho, Lauracolors and Auberi Zwickel.

The idea behind the market is to share the artists’ work in a more affordable, accessible way than a traditional gallery show. Kaufman says,
“Camille and I had a conversation about four years ago about how cool it would be to do a market of artists’ merchandise, rather than really their fine artwork. You know… prints, T-shirts, zines, artists’ books, pins, small originals or drawings—things that wouldn’t necessarily be able to make it into a regular show.”
Mercado Los Olvidados #3 kicks off with a VIP preview party on Friday, September 21 from 7 – 10 pm, and runs through the weekend. Tickets are available online as well as at the door. (VIP tickets for the Friday night event are $45. General admission tickets over the weekend are $10.) The pskaufman… gallery, which also functions as a community space, is adjacent to the Pskaufman footwear store in DTLA.
