SAVE THE DATE: Belfast Painter Ted Pim’s First U.S. Exhibition, “Empire Lines,” Opens at The Salon at automatic sweat on Saturday, November 16
This weekend in the Culver City Arts District, The Salon at automatic sweat will celebrate the launch of Belfast artist Ted Pim’s solo show, “Empire Lines.” The Salon, established in 2013, is a passion project of John Papsidera, one of the most successful casting directors in the world, and producer Valoree Papsidera. The husband and wife are fervent art collectors who set out to create an inviting, unpretentious space to encourage artists at varying levels. The Salon’s pioneering spirit and informal attitude provide a welcoming platform for new collectors and restores genuine passion into the gallery experience.
Ted Pim is a lifelong artist who only in recent years began to sell and show his paintings. Growing up in a poverty-stricken area of Western Europe, he became transfixed by the contrast between the gilded grandeur he saw in churches and museums and his own surroundings. Stylistically, Pim’s work lies between Baroque and Classical and carries a sense of traditional discipline. His rich, perfectly executed oil textures combine with the subject matter to convey both beauty and darkness. He has received a warm welcome from international collectors and markets.
Ted Pim’s work caught John Papsidera’s attention and inspired The Salon to re-open its doors and share his art with a wider audience. Empire Lines is Pim’s first exhibition in the United States, and it includes 25 new oil paintings.
The body of work shown in Empire Lines evolved over the course of roughly two years. Delving beyond the stunning floral work for which he is most recognized, Pim has created more than twenty oil-on-canvas pieces that vary in scale. Empire Lines includes his moody floral paintings as well as detailed hunting portraiture and a large-scale battle scene. Says Pim, “If I can achieve 10 percent of the effect that Francis Bacon’s Head II had upon me, I am doing okay.”
