September 29, 2013 @ 10:00 am - 6:00 pm

Once called Main Street, Abbott Kinney Blvd in Venice, CA was renamed to honor the neighborhood’s quixotic founder who envisioned the area as a paradise for arts and culture, grafting the canals and an amusement park on the marshy swamplands. Venice has  gone through many transitions since it was founded as recreation area in 1905, and Kinney would be thrilled today to see the art and culture that flows along his namesake street and into the surrounding neighborhoods.

Since 1984, the Abbot Kinney Festival has offered a free, community-based street fair in mid-October that has grown in size and popularity to become one of the largest events of its kind in Southern California, attracting attendees throughout the region who are environmentally conscious, health focused, arts-minded, and community-oriented. The extensive selection of handcrafted artisan items complements an eclectic, cutting edge mix of boutiques, restaurants, and art along the famed one-mile shopping district of Abbot Kinney Blvd.

This year, we invite you to join us at the Do Art Foundation’s booth where you will learn more about CARTWHEEL’s new partner along with the opportunity to purchase prints from a selection of the Lighting in a Paintcan artists in addition to works from CARTWHEEL featured artists Corey Hagberg, RADICAL!, and Scott Michael Ackerman. This is the link with CARTWHEEL’s coverage from Lightning in a Paintcan this last year at Lightning in a Bottle: http://www.cartwheelart.com/2013/08/05/lightning-in-a-paintcan-libs-yearly-charity-event-creates-an-environment-pulsing-with-artistic-enthusiasm/ to learn more about Do Art Foundation and the artists.

Just for families, visit the KidsQuad & TotLot, an area at Westminster Ave. Elementary where everyone can dance and sing along to live music and entertainment, create art, play games, and enjoy the day together.

Other festival highlights include music, bike valet stations, beer gardens, food trucks, and local dining. This free event runs from 10am to 6pm.
