L.A.’s New Contemporary art scene–think Pop Surrealism, conceptual narrative, low brow, interpretive representational; you know, Los Angeles art!–gets its fourth showcasing in the historical, and very LA setting, Barnsdall Art Park in East Hollywood, Oct. 12 and 13, 2013. Beyond Eden, at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery at Barnsdall Art Park in East Hollywood,  celebrates the scene by welcoming the public — with free admission — to view live painting and works from participating galleries including C.A.V.E. Gallery, Copro Gallery, Spoke Art, and Thinkspace.  (Check out the history of LAMAG at Barnsdall Art Park, the city’s first public art gallery, open long before LACMA or MOCA!).

As part of its program, each year Beyond Eden honors an art world Angeleno who has helped bring awareness to New Contemporary art. Robert Williams, Billy Shire and Anthony Ausgang are past honorees, and this year Greg Escalante will be the recipient, fitting since Esclante’s Copro Gallery, celebrating its 20th anniversary August 17th through September 7th, has launched careers for numerous NC artists. Escalante will honored at Beyond Eden’s evening exhibition on October 12 at 7pm.

Saturday’s festivities begin at 5pm on Oct. 12, with a sponsored bar, DJ, and the presentation at 7pm honoring Greg Escalante. Sunday, October 13, the exhibition runs from noon to 5pm. The fourth annual event is coordinated by Thinkspace’s Andrew Hosner. Arrive early and expect a big crowd: attendance was well over 5,000 last year.
