This one is huge! It’s Copro Gallery‘s 20th Anniversary Group Art Exhibition, paying tribute to the gallery’s role in the beginnings of the Lowbrow / Pop Surreal movement since 1993. What began with a selection of works by Robert Williams, Big Daddy Roth, Sandow Birk, Russell Crotty, and others has continued for two decades with artists such as Mark Ryden, David Choe, Brian Viveros, Isabel Samaras, Van Arno, Luke Chueh, Audrey Kawasaki, Chet Zar, Shag, Travis Louie, and many more.
The group exhibition runs Aug. 17 through Sept. 7, 2013, with an opening reception on Saturday, Aug. 17 from 8 to 11:30pm.
More about Copro Gallery: Copro Nason Fine Art Publishing was formed in 1993, hatched from the friendship of Douglas Nason and Greg Escalante when Doug bought a Robert Williams seriagraph from Greg that he published in 1989. Greg Escalante co-founded Juxtapoz Magazine and sat on the board of several local art museums during the same period. The team opened a permanent venue in 1999 in Culver City and moved to its current location at Bergamot Station in 2005. Read more about the gallery’s history here.
The 20th Anniversary show will feature the artists mentioned above and many more. See you there!
