The Black Doll Show is the longest running exhibition of black dolls in Los Angeles. More than three decades after the first Black Doll show, this years event features hand made and designer collectable dolls under the theme of Dolls Gone Wild – where the curated dolls are displayed in a virtual jungle. Dolls in the show may be abstract or literal, old or new, and this year animal prints abound.
The show’s opening night is on Dec. 14, 2013 and the show runs until Feb. 8. Opening night performances by Marcus Miller’s Project World Drum, The Lula Washington Dance Theater, and Dale Guy Madison are scheduled.
One week following the opening, on Dec. 21., the public is invited to take part in a doll making workshop. Those interested should contact the William Grant Still Arts Center regarding materials fees.
The William Grant Still Arts Center is open Tuesday through Saturday from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m..
