Sheppard Fairey‘s gallery Subliminal Projects is hosting an evening devoted Sid Vicious, the original bassist for the iconic 1977 punk rock band, arguably the one that started it all, The Sex Pistols. Photos, paintings, prints, and other works of art inspired by Vicious are viewable at the show, including a life-sized replica of a hotel room destroyed by Vicious in 1977.

The life of Sid Vicious can be described alternately as the epitome of “cool” or “tragic” or both, with underlying themes of creativity, fame, and musical trailblazing intermixed with addiction, murder and suicide. This show will be the first of it’s kind, an opportunity to experience many artists’ perspectives on how Vicious’s image impacts us to this day.

While the opening art show is free, a special performance by Steve Jones, Billy Idol, Clem Burke, and Leigh Gorman playing 1977 era punk classics live as Ritchie Love in tribute to Sid Vicious will follow the opening night reception on Dec. 13 with a $10 suggested donation.
