The Craft and Folk Art Museum will host an exciting exhibit of work by influential Leimert Park assemblage and interdisciplinary artist Timothy Washington, with an opening reception on January 25 2013. Washington is a notable contemporary artist with work that often expresses reaction to African American social and political events. Love Thy Neighbor presents art that spans Washington’s career from his 1960’s aluminum etchings to more recent works created in the past year or so.
This show will provide an unusual opportunity to view Washington’s normally somewhat elusive pieces, which normally might be in private collections, or the permanent collection of LACMA of the California African American Museum.
In addition to the opening night, an artist talk with Timothy Washington himself will occur on March 16 at 3:00 p.m. More information can be found here. The Craft and Folk Art Museum is located on Wilshire Blvd. across the street from LACMA.
