VOLTA NY is an invitational show of emerging solo artists’ projects and the American incarnation of the successful young fair founded in Basel in 2005. This year, the invitational fair inaugurates its new location, 82MERCER in SoHo, was showcasing 95 international galleries, spanning 6 continents and spotlighting artists from 38 nations. CARTWHEEL featured artist Greg Haberny is among the artists included.
A platform for challenging, often complementary, sometimes competing ideas about contemporary art, the strictly solo format is what gives the New York fair its unique character.VOLTA NY was conceived in 2008 by Artistic Director Amanda Coulson as a tightly-focused, boutique event that is a place for discovery, a showcase for relevant art contemporary positions regardless of the artist’s or gallery’s age.
By refocusing on artists through solo projects, VOLTA NY promotes a deep exploration of the work of its selected participants and offers the opportunity for discoveries beyond those afforded by a traditional art fair. VOLTA NY, which opens with a VIP preview March 7 from noon to 2pm, and to the general public at 2pm on March 7, runs through March 10th, with hours Friday Friday and saturdya form 11pm to 8pm and Sunday form 11am to 6pm. VOLTA NY honors The Armory VIP pass and VIP passes from the other NY Art Week fairs. A dual admission Armory/VOLTA general pass is available for $40. General admission at the door is $15 each day, and $10 for students.
