Shepard Fairey Finishes “Make Art, Not War” Mural in Silver Lake
Last night after dark and this morning I went down to see more of Shepard Fairey’s “Make Art, Not War” mural on the side of Baller Hardware and then later this after this afternoon watched the final touches as the team form Baller Hardware took down the scaffolding and Shephard began his detail work.
Fairey and his crew were generous with their space, allowing tight shots that show exactly they how work. (And it didn’t hurt that when they dropped a couple spray cans I was close enough to hand them back up). The entire process was being professionally filmed by a French film crew organized by Fairey’s wife, Amanda, as a part of a larger project she’s producing, but both she and the crew were gracious enough to allow us to snap and tape away.
One thing that’s clear from these photos and from watching Fairey is that he is a detailed-oriented perfectionist. He’s also a really nice guy, taking time out to sign a limited edition Obey spray can for a dad with his baby son and give him a huge stack of stickers.
The second CARTWHEEL video of the finished mural is below the photos.
