Culver City: Bar & Garden
Bar & Garden, located between Corey Helfond Gallery and the cluster of galleries around Thinkspace Gallery, and just two doors from Century Guild, celebrates the art of natural wine, beer, and spirits in a warm and welcoming environment. The cheerful liquor store stocks small batch, artisanal spirits and mixers (including bitters and sodas), along with small run wines and beers, all of which must meet the owners’ minimum standards of no herbicides, no pesticides, and no artificial ingredients.
The plants that decorate the inside are all for sale, and they serve as a reminder that booze comes from plants–the fruits, seeds, stems and roots of living organisms, something that’s easy to forget if you’re used to slurping down PBR, mysterious free party wine, or weirdly sweet neon-colored cocktails. We picked up a bottle of Donkey & Goat Chardonnay to take to an art event (yes, we’ll sometimes bring our own–and we share!), and tasted a great biodymanic, unsulfured red wine–funky, earthy and refreshing.
Exploring the art galleries along Washington Blvd with a small group? Stop in for a wine tasting then continue your stroll. Bars & Garden offer flights of wine and has bottles available for tasting. They also hold special events to celebrate the brewers, vinters, and enthusiasts who embrace the fine art of fine drinking.
