One Night Only! March 6: Red Bull Curates Presents: “The Canvas Cooler Project”
As part of a eight-city U.S. tour, Red Bull Curates: The Canvas Cooler Project stops in Los Angeles on Thursday, March 6th at the historic Mack Sennett Studios. The Canvas Cooler Project pairs up emerging artists with local venue owners to create custom and functional pieces of art.
Hand picked artists are given the challenge to transform a blank canvas wrapped Red Bull cooler into an inspired work of art. The masterpieces will be unveiled to the public in a one night exhibition where gallery patrons and a panel of judges will vote for their favorite pieces. Coolers are also placed in venues in each city where the public can enjoy them, giivng the artists increased exposure. Then winners from each city will be invited to exhibit at SCOPE during Art Basel Week in Miami.
Artists like Gregory Siff, Hebru Brantley, Lydia Emily and last year’s national winner, Annie Preece are just a few talented artists whose work Red Bull has given wings to.
2012 Canvas Cooler Artist Gregory Siff told CARTWHEEL:
Red Bull Curates gave me the platform to paint what I want to paint and share it with a larger audience. The canvas cooler I did was installed at Danny’s in Venice CA, where James Dean and Dennis Hopper had conversations about life and art. The program led me to SCOPE Miami and brought me there for my first Art Basel experience. I have an immense amount of gratitude for Red Bull and for what it pioneers in the creative.
The Red Bull Curates team members–including CARTWHEEL publisher/founder Cindy Schwarzstein who is both a judge and member of the host committee– are excited to work with the historic Mack Sennett Studios, which was built in 1916 as a silent movie studio in Los Angeles, CA. Through the years the studio has been a home to hundreds of commercials, music videos, feature films, industrials, and recently web productions.
The exciting night with Red Bull Curates takes places this Thursday at 8:00 PM, sharp.
