Save the Date: LA Weekly’s Artopia, April 30 at The Container Yard
It’s a mega-art Thursday at The Container Yard on April 30 from 8:00pm to 11:00pm, featuring live art, music, fashion, artisanal cocktails and food trucks. Artopia is back for its third year and for 2015, art world superhero Shana Nys Dambrot has curated a sensory event to delight, entrance and expand your mind:
My vision for ARTOPIA this year continues and expands on the theme of interactivity, immersion, and experience that animated the 2014 edition — but this year, with a little more peace and love in the mix. Along with the return of favorites like Bohemian Society’s edgy live body-painting textiles performance, and Debi Cable’s Instagram-breaking 3D Art Gallery, ARTOPIA invites a cast of engaging, beauty-obsessed installation and performance artists and progressive video programmers to celebrate the release of the Weekly’s People Issue by genuinely showing our love for the people. Setting the audio atmosphere for a night of hosted bars, botanical stimulation, appreciation of the human body, and the magic of art being made before your eyes will be the one and only Jeremy Sole — friend of all things beautiful, and so much more than just your favorite DJ.
Artists include Debi Cable’s 3D Art Gallery Robert “Dytch 66” Gomez, Drew Merritt, Wyatt Mills, the floral art of Mud Baron, and Vyal, plus performance/fashion/body painting art from Victor Wilde/Bohemian Society, performance art from Marcus Kuiland-Nazario; the amazing Amy Kapps; and live painting form Mikal B. In addition, there will be artisan vendors presented by We Are DTLA.
As part of the LA Weekly’s Artopia programming, there will also be a FREE urban exploration tour from 6:30pm to 8:30pm where urban explorers will discover, explore and experience the DTLA Arts District and its murals with Cartwheel Art Tours and their team of “Insiders”, who are deeply connected to the neighborhood and where Cartwheel Art is based. The tour starts at 6:30pm, before the festivities begin, and ends when The Container Yard opens at 8:00pm. Urban Explorers will meet outside The Container Yard at the corner of Colyton Street and 4th Street. More details here on the Cartwheel Art Tours Calendar along with the eventbrite link to RSVP.
