Dan Baldwin: Reliquia at Garboushian
Wow. Just wow. This is Reliquia, a sculpture by Dan Baldwin, on exhibition at Garboushian Gallery in Beverly Hills. Over three feet high, it is ceramic coated in platinum and inlaid with mother-of-pear. One of the NBYA (New Young British Artists), Baldwin shares of the similarities of his predecessors–namely the use of precious metals and gems and skull imagery–and has incorporated pop iconography in a way that is effortless and charming without being cute, cloying or trite.
Reliquia is beautiful, strong, mesmerizing and on view through January 4th. Its presence at Garboushian indicates that this gallery is coming on strong with edgier shows–look for photographer Steve Diet Goedde’s photo show “Femminstants” featuring unique works of art using a delicate Polaroid-transfer process that creates original archival photo-objects that cannot be duplicated, opening January 14, 2016.
