Save the Date: January 14, Steve Diet Goedde at Garboushian Gallery
Hands down, Steve Diet Goedde is one of the top fetish/erotic photographers in the world, and full disclosure, I’ve curated him into shows before because I truly love how he photographs women. His work shows an awareness of women–of their dreams, their spirits, their inner life–making his photos more than just fancy fap shots. Goedde’s photographs are portraits: intimate, sensual, honest, reverent. That he appreciates and adores women is clear in his work, and in his new show, “Femminstants,” opening with an artist’s reception Thursday, January 14 at Garboushin Gallery, he brings a new level to his work.
“Femminstants” is a series of one-of-kind prints. The delicate Polaroid-transfer process creates original archival photo-objects that cannot be duplicated. The images in “Femminstants” have a modern edge, with intentional image-framing, playful poses, and creative settings. In this series, Goedde pushes and plays with classic boudoir style, candid snapshots, and film noir, creating small snapshots that are like peepholes into the intimate personal moments of his models, highlighting the delicate and intimate moments of confident, strong and independent women who take their destiny and sexuality into their own hands, on their own terms. While Goedde’s “Femminstants” are inherently sensual, it is the natural vulnerability and the candor of the models, the moments, and the slightly abstracted, subtle photographic process that give the works their seductive feel, creating an eroticism based in intimacy and honesty.
