Happy Accident by Eric Joyner

There’s plenty to check out at Corey Helford Gallery this weekend as a trio of new shows open. In the main gallery, Eric Joyner returns with a solo show entitled “Glazed Machinations.” Joyner has been showing with the gallery since they launched in 2006—he was their very first solo show. His new work is a love letter to California, infusing the coastal landscape and its cities with his signature vintage robots and donuts. This show, comprised of over a dozen medium and large scale paintings, as well as pencil and charcoal drawings, also features Corgis, sea serpents, and new robot characters.

A commercial artist before becoming a full-time fine artist, Joyner has a robust portfolio of editorial work. His latest book was released in March and he was recently commissioned to create a cover for MAD Magazine, the original painting of which will be for sale at the show.

In Gallery 2, CANTSTOPGOODBOY makes his solo debut at Corey Helford Gallery with
“It’s Not Glitter, It’s Stardust,” a sparkly new body of contemporary work. The Southern California native is using glitter (or as he calls it, “stardust”) as a medium in nearly every new piece—as paint, an accent, or as a background. He brings another new medium into play as well. One of the show’s centerpieces is a vintage arcade game he has transformed from the inside out to create the CANTSTOPGOODBOY experience. Players are tasked to recreate one of his artworks in a scrolling adventure 80s-style arcade game.
