Amanda Demme shoots her subjects in a style reminiscent of Old Master portraits. The individuals photographed range from family, friends, to strangers chosen off the street. The process of each portrait is a lengthy session which draws on Demme’s love for all things “old” — nostalgic images and objects collected personally by her over the years have become both her inspiration and artistic means. The photographs are then printed with archival ink on canvas, adding to the painterly feel.
Her work has found a perfect exhibition space at Obsolete in Venice where antiques and arcane items mingle. The artist reception is May 4 from 6pm-9pm, and runs through June 2.
