Alongside his innumerable award-winning music videos and commercials, and film, director Samuel Bayer has  produced still photographs, evolving a style of gritty rawness, culminating in his new work, a large-scale series of black and white photographic nude portraits, being exhibited for the first time at Ace Gallery Beverly Hills. The show opens  Sunday March 3, 2013 and runs through April 27, 2013.

The models are women Bayer has worked with and known over the past decade,  who in front of Bayer’s lens become living archetypes in the colossal scale of ancient goddesses, looming over 14 feet above a viewer at  the series of nude triptychs shot with large scale 4×5 cameras, accompanied by two diptychs of faces in extreme close-up.

Bayer has has widespread and profound influence in pop culture from directing breakthrough and award winning rock music videos, including Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Spirit, and videos for Green Day,  The Rolling Stones, Sheryl Crow, John Lee Hooker, Marilyn Manson, Metallica, Smashing Pumpkins, David Bowie, Aerosmith, and Lenny Kravitz.  His commercials are represented in the permanent film/video collection at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, and have also won awards, including a Clio for Mountain Dew: Showstopper and 2011 won an Emmy, Award, a Cannes Gold Lion, and the International Andy Award for Crysler Born: of Fire
