We live in an age when electronic communication can be as effortless as breathing, and some might consider it just as essential. To impart common sentiments to multiple receivers, memes fulfill the textual roles of Hallmark Cards and billboards. They are handy for sharing an inside joke with your best friend or a cultural reference to millions people. They are the LOLcats, the Bad Luck Brians, the Harlem Shakes that delight, disgust and de-bore us all. Memes are a visual text that tie us together on the interwebs.
To celebrate (or perhaps mock) this particular facet of pop culture, Illuminoidal Arts in Long Beach is curating a show of multiple artists, all with meme-themed contributions. These works are small enough to make excellent holiday gifts for others, but would also make a nice gift for yourself.
Full disclosure: CARTWHEEL is proud to add that Lisa Derrick, our beloved benevolent editor overlady, will be showing some of her newly-made art there, so you should check it out.
