Moby loves Los Angeles. The multi-platinum musician is fascinated by our architecture, the many religions and cults that have sprung up here, and the ongoing  reinvention of its landscape and its residents that is part of our weird and wonderful city’s destiny. He discussed his his feeling about LA at Sonos Studios during the listening party to mark the release of his Los Angeles-inspired Innocents. And now Moby has created a series of strange and disturbing photos that expands on the album Innocents, opening Friday February 21, 2014 at Project Gallery.

For his “Innocents”  photo series, Moby based his large scale photographs on the premise that an apocalypse happened on December 21, 2012, and on the surface, and for the most part, life in Los Angeles appears normal, the significant and bizarre shifts lurking but barely perceptible.

Moby invites audiences to step into the scenes in which individuals and groups, wearing masks and white robes, attempt to make personal and collective sense of this apocalypse.  Robed figures strive for  reinvention whether spiritual, physical, psychological  in these documented rituals, while their masked faces disguise the darker emotions and motivations that we hide even from ourselves–fear, shame, and a hedonistic willingness to try anything to succeed and fill the voids.

Innocents, which runs through March 30, will be celebrated with an opening event on Friday, February 21 at 7pm at Project Gallery. You must RSVP to contact@projectla.net for the opening night event. The gallery’s regular hours are noon to 6pm Wednesday and Friday noon to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.
