Richard Kessler‘s sensuous, dizzying, apocalyptic vision of Los Angeles on display in a series of large works at District Gallery.New works by L.A. artist Richard Kessler, whose works evoke a sensuous urban culture of dead palms, aging signage, hot metal and playful objects crammed into a seedy landscape of dramatically angled planes. There will be wine at tonight’s artist reception from 7pm to 10pm.
The show’s title is a direct reference to Marcel Duchamp (the art world is celebrating the centennial of his arrival in America, which marked the beginning of Modernism, Dada, and Surrealism) and his famous urinal as well as to our city streets, which are often bathed in the stench of urine.
