Hold on to your eyeballs and be prepared to take your brain on a wild ride as Ron English guides you into the culture-crazed landscape of “POPagandanstan,” opening October 26 at Corey Helford Gallery. English, whose work is included in major collections, appropriates brand and advertising iconography and morphs them into pointed social and political commentary and will be at the opening which runs from 7pm to 10pm. The show is up through November 16, and regular gallery hours are Tuesday – Saturday, noon to 6:00pm.
“Popagandastan” is billed as English’s
most ambitiously conceptual exhibition to date.
And it is sublime, profane, disturbing–a series of lavishly painted canvases exploring the expansive and maleable worlds of our subconscious, a subconscious fed, nurtured, and populated by commercial and entertainment iconography. “Popagandastan” is a shifting, uncharted universe, full of wormholes and wrong turns, wit and truth.
And as a bonus, Ron English will be painting in downtown Los Angeles October 27 to 31, on the north and west facing walls, at 667 S. Santa Fe Avenue, Los Angeles, CA. 90021
