New Image Art brings together three energetic groups of American youth culture for their first show of 2013: Cowboys, skate boarding, and the collective known as the DRUGS Crew combine a group show featuring Christopher Cascio; Bryson Brooks and Holly Hein Brooks; professional skater-turned-artist Chad Muska; and San Francisco street artists from the DRUGS Crew, Marc Cross and Panda Sex.
The DRUGS Crew were featured as part of the Los Angeles MOCA’s “Art in the Streets,” exhibition, and are now recognized as a world-wide brand, setting a standard for originality and psychedelia, while garnering much respect for their futuristic sensibilities, while creating commentaries on current graffiti and culture. Panda Sex explores the humorous boundaries between graffiti and “high art” with that work often draws on the imagery of early style video games and expresses the artist’s zany sense of humor, while Marc Cross is exhibiting woven blankets made from photos he took of homeless people sleeping on the streets of New York City.
3 Cowboys, 2 Drugs, and a Skater runs through February 3.
