We love Aqua Art Miami. We love that it is in a hotel. We love that we can mix and mingle, and that there is a pool. And most of all we love the art at Aqua!
Aqua, held at at the Aqua Hotel, began in 2005 as an experiment in bringing together innovative galleries and artists from the West Coast during Art Basel Week. Each room shows the curated art of different galleries, giving visitors a new art experience through every door, plus there’s a wonderful pool and courtyard for socializing. Over the years, Aqua has been recognized for presenting vibrant and noteworthy international art programs, with a particular interest in supporting young dealers and galleries with strong emerging and early-mid career artists
Featured this year at Aqua: 45 dynamic young galleries from North and South America, Europe and Asia; and innovative special programming including performance art, new media and solo installations. Coagula Curatorial has Tim Youd performing his geographically-specific conceptual art with Elmore Leonard’s Get Shorty in room 218 (The book features a scene that takes place on Collins Ave., where the Aqua Hotel is located). Venice-based Shulamit Gallery, currently featuring an outstanding Gary Baseman exhibit in Los Angeles, has a room there, too. Aqua also presents CARTWHEEL favorites Charlie James Gallery with work from, among other artists, James Lambert; and Lyons Wier Gallery with their roster of artists including Greg Haberny who wowwed last year with his room installation and ultra-modern sculptor Beau Dunn who bases her work on the iconic Barbie doll.
