Community is built in conversations and shared experiences that so often begin over a cup of coffee. If you want to get to know a neighborhood, the local coffee shop is a good place to start. And, when it comes to connecting that community, what better way than to hop on a bicycle.

Join Cartwheel Art Tours and The Wheelhouse, Bike Shop + Coffee Shop on Saturday September 18th for a Coffee by Bicycle Tour of the Arts District.

Beginning at The Wheelhouse, we will meet the shop that is bringing coffee and bicycles together in an every day way. From there, we will casually pedal our way through the Arts District, stopping at four more coffee shops in the heart of each pocket along the way. Our stops include Blacktop, Blue Bottle, Bulletproof and Shreebs. Each of these shops will prepare a small tasting of their favorite drink for us to enjoy as they share their story. Our last stop, will be at ediBol where we will be served chef Andrea Uyeda’s, homemade waffle wedges drizzled with Stumptown Hairbender deep chocolate sauce, before receiving a small parting gift, including an individual container of a cold-brewed coffee from Califia Farms.

During the tour, Cindy Schwarzstein, founder of Cartwheel Art Tours, based in the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District, will provide insight on the art, history and developments of the neighborhood. Coffee played a part in the history in the Arts District as businesses such as Maxwell House, Hills Brothers, and Ben Hur Coffee & Spice Co., all operated in buildings here that were built between 1916 – 1929.

If you have a bicycle, bring it! Don’t have a bicycle? No problem! There’s a Metro Bike Share Station right next to The Wheelhouse and Metro is sponsoring your first 30 minutes for free.

– All tastings are included. Full beverages are available for purchase separately.
– Parking is available in the lot behind the The Wheelhouse. Rates with validation are: $3 before 3pm / $7 after 3pm
– ediBOL will also be offering a special treat of homemade waffle wedges drizzled with Stumptown hairbender deep chocolate sauce to the group.
