Two new exhibits, “Seven Beauties” and “Explain Yourself”, will show for the same duration at Avenue 50 Studio, kicking off with side-by-side opening receptions on May 11, 2013 from 7 to 10pm.
“Seven Beauties” is curated by José Lozano as a cross-section of women making art in L.A. today. Showing in the main gallery space, seven female artists include Leigh Salgado — interviewed by CARTWHEEL here, Kim Abeles, Rochelle Botello, Stephanie Mercado (pictured above L), Linda Arreola, Lili Bernard and Poli Marichal, who will lead a discussion on the movie “Seven Beauties” by Lina Wertmuller (which will also be screened at the exhibition). José Lozano has painted small portraits of each artist that will hang with the seven artists’ works.
“Explain Yourself” is the all-new series of paintings by Frank Gutierrez based on Alice in Wonderland (pictured above R). This exhibition will be in the Annex Room of Avenue 50 Studio.
Both exhibits will run through June 2.
