Punk rock has produced some pretty amazing scientists, professors, lawyers, and business people, all of whom have stayed true to their punk roots by continuing to embrace their artistic sides. Other punks have stayed in arts and music, and others have turned their (mis)adventures with sex, drug and rock n roll into the dedicated efforts to help others, again continuing to create.
Enter Bob Forrest, of Thelonius Monster, most recently seen in the documentary Bob and the Monster which chronicles his drug and alcohol addiction and his eventual redemption who will read from his newly published Running with Monsters (a Memoir); and Jack Grisham of T.S.O.L., now a professional hypnotherapist and NLP counselor, who will read from his newly published collectionof short stories .
Tonight at La Luz de Jesus, form 6pm to 9pm. they’ll be introduced by actress/poet/author and publisher Iris Berry, whose Punk Hostage Press published Grisham’s latest, Untamed, ten short stories of depression, suicide, murder, love, and rage. Untamed’s tales are modern horror stories that to me take to the grisly thrills of reading Night Gallery, Tales from Crypt and other collection of psychological terror as a pre-teen. Only know I’m grown up and have experienced some of these tormented realities, making Grisham’s prose all the more seductively disturbing. Enhancing the experience, illustrations by Scott Aicher.
Fan of punk and beautiful brutal prose will revel ad squirm as these two men of scars and letters, Forrest and Grisham lay out the human condition in vivid blood splatters and crystal clear tears.
