Who better to showcase at the inaugural exhibition of The Kohn Gallery‘s new 10,000-square foot Hollywood space, with 22-foot ceilings and massive glass windows, than pop-surrealist Mark Ryden? “The Gay Nineties West”exhibition will be one view Saturday, May 3, 2014 through June 28, 2014.
The opening reception is from 12pm to 6pm, and attendees are encouraged to wear period costumes (though if it’s hot and sunny, meat dresses might not be the wisest choice!) Kohn Gallery is located at 1227 Highland Ave, in Hollywood.
New paintings, works on paper, installation and sculpture exploring the lost but not forgotten “Gay 90s” will be included in the exhibition. It is a continuation of his show “The Gay 90s: Olde Tyme Art Show” that took place in 2010 at the Kasmin Gallery, New York. The L.A. exhibition is Ryden’s largest and most ambitious work to date.
