Cartwheel Art Tours founder Cindy Schwarzstein, led a group of 40 ladies for the Women Who Whiskey – Los Angeles Chapter in the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District, on Sunday August 7th. This was the second custom tour itinerary Cindy created for the Women Who Whiskey – Los Angeles Chapter with chapter president Kim Ohanneson, offered as a partnered event with Cartwheel Art Tours and Women Who Whiskey as “The Art of Whiskey”.

This tour that began at Silverlake Wine and Beer, included viewing many murals along Seventh Street, both by graffiti and street artists, as well as meeting three diverse artists who spoke about their work.

The first guest speaker was Elle, an international street artist who has recently moved her studio from New York to Los Angeles. She recently painted a Frida Kahlo mural in the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District and spoke to the group about the process. Everyone loved meeting her and hearing about her work and background.

Robert “Dytch 66” Gomez, a graffiti writer from the CBS Crew, who is a pioneer in the 3-D graffiti lettering style was the second artist that was a guest speaker. “Dytch 66” also the Blank Canvas LA spoke to the group about his work style and numerous projects as well as exhibitions that have featured his work. His wife Nona was there with him and added more to the conversation of empowered women in the group!

Last up for the art component of the tour, was a private studio visit with Nick Bonamy, an Arts District based artist who spoke about  the processes with his work and offered us a preview on work that will be on exhibition at The Gabba Gallery next week. We all really enjoyed meeting Nick, and a few new collectors came out of our visit as well.

Stay tuned for our next “The Art of Whiskey” partnered tour with Cartwheel Art Tours x Women Who Whiskey. Also, contact Cindy to have her create a custom tour itinerary for your group or organization.

Photo coverage by Cindy Schwarzstein can be found on Facebook, along with a video of Dytch 66 speaking about his pioneering 3-D graffiti lettering style.

Below is photo coverage by Melinda Sanchez. Also check out her instagram video with Dytch 66 speaking about his process.

Save the Date: Next tour with Cartwheel Art Tours, that’s based on graffiti and street art, in our neighborhood of the Downtown Los Angeles Arts District, with ticket purchase available, is on September 18th. This tour with Steve Grody, author of Graffiti LA, is a great opportunity to become familiar with the major forms of modern graffiti by a strong variety of graffiti “writers” as well as street art and some archival gang writing scribed into the sidewalks.

By the time the tour is done, everybody will have a more “educated eye” with which to evaluate the burgeoning street art scene.

Some of the graffiti art we will be viewing is located on graffiti crew walls where they’ve been creating productions for years, but are not usually explored by those other then the graffiti community. More details and to purchase tickets can be found here.
