Save the Date & Preview: “Last Ticket for the Beauty Train” by Scott Hove – Friday September 1st at KP Projects in Chinatown & Saturday September 9th at KP Projects La Brea
Scott Hove has proven he’s onto something special with his twisted cake sculptures, with claws and fangs protruding from the sugary frosting. His gigantic Cakeland maze generated millions of media impressions in outlets as diverse as Vice as and Smithsonian Magazine. All of his work is a comment on “our notions of comfort, pleasure, celebration and their dark counterparts in the form of carefully crafted artificial cakes.”
He’s taking all of this to the next level in “Last Ticket For the Beauty Train,” his solo show which will premiere at KP Projects in Los Angeles on September 1. The exhibition will consist of two parts in separate locations.
The first exhibit is a fully-immersive, walkthrough installation at the gallery’s Chinatown pop up space, featuring a groundbreaking mirrored infinity chamber with timed entry.

The second exhibit will be a traditional gallery exhibit at KP Project’s La Brea Blvd space, featuring over a dozen new sculptural pieces.
The sweet, frosting-covered cake environments Hove creates are as magical and beautiful as ever—but now the artist uses them to question how they will be viewed in today’s political and economic environment.
“How can it be considered responsible to pursue joy and beauty when the pop standard is to express disgust? What is our destination when the standard bearers of our Western civilization are being undermined by America’s new ruling oligarch class, and planetary stewardship is cast to the cold winds of quarterly investment returns?”
asks Hove in his statement for the exhibition.
