The Cat Art Show, described as “the world’s most popular biennial art exhibition dedicated to the feline,” returns to Think Tank Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles on Thursday, June 14, 2018.
“Cat Art Show 3: The Sequel Returns Again” will feature more than 100 globally-recognized and emerging artists, including Mark Ryden, Ellen von Unwerth, Brandon Boyd, C215, Tasya Van Ree, Lola Gil, Travis Louie, Daniel Maidman, Brandi Milne, Marion Peck, Mick Rock, Edel Rodriguez, Devon Shimoyama, and Casey Weldon, among others. Their work reflects a variety of cat breeds including Maine Coons, Russian Blues, Siamese, Sphynxes, and Tabbies depicted across a range of media including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, collage and embroidery.
“The enigmatic feline has been a source of artistic inspiration for thousands of years. One moment they can be a best friend, the next, an antagonist. They are the perfect subject matter, and works of art, all by themselves.” – Susan Michals, Cat Art Show creator and curator
Cat Art Show’s VIP Opening Reception on June 14 starts at 6 pm, and includes cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. The Public Opening immediately follows at 8:30 pm, and includes a full cash bar, DJs, and photo booth. Beneficiaries of the exhibition include The Ian Somerhalder Foundation and Kitten Rescue LA.
On Thursday, June 21, Cat Art Show will present a Feline Frolic night featuring PURRlesque performances by Vanessa Burgundy and Iza La Vamp. At the closing party on Saturday, June 23, they’re bringing in adoptable kittens for a Kitty Cuddle Party. General admission to the gallery is free on weekdays, and $5 on weekends. Children under 12 are free. Evening events have limited capacity and require a separate ticket.
