This Saturday, A.G. Geiger Fine Art Books in Chinatown is hosting the book launch of Zen Psychosis, a new novella by art critic, curator, and author Shana Nys Dambrot that features pinhole photography by Osceola Refetoff.
Shana will read excerpts from Zen Psychosis, and both she and Osceola will be available to sign books and answer questions. Following the reading and signing, a reception with bites by Pearly Chef will follow at Refetoff’s Chung King Studio a few doors down from the store.
Michael Delgado, the owner of A.G. Geiger, has a podcast, A.G. Geiger Presents: Tales from the LA Art Underworld, and in episode 41, he talked to Shana and Osceola about Zen Psychosis. Listen to it here.
The book is published by Griffith Moon, and on their website, Shana describes it this way: “Zen Psychosis is a work of experimental fiction: the attempt to construct a personal memoir culled not from diaries, but dreams. In a way, as the scenes are taken from my own journals, this book is not fiction at all; the dreams are real, their meanings form a story. As a critic of art and an amateur student of Jungian psychoanalysis, I am often compelled to decode intuitive, inscrutable symbols and assemble meaning from the clues the dream or the artist leaves behind. In this novel, I’m applying the technique to my own inner self.”
If you can’t make it to the launch party, Zen Psychosis will be available online from Griffith Moon Publishing starting on Saturday.
