Brandon Boyd Curates “The Horror, The Horror” at Ernie Wolfe

November 20, 2013 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Oh wow! “The Horror, The Horror” is a collection of insane, amazing hand-painted movie posters from Ghana, curated by artist/musician Brandon Boyd, from the book Extreme Canvas 2, The Golden Age of Hand-Painted Movie Posters from Ghana, by Ernie Wolfe III, at Ernie Wolfe Gallery.

(Literary geek alert: The show’s title comes from the famous phrase in Joseph Conrad’s novel about Africa, Heart of Darkness which was the foundation for Francis Ford Coppola’s  Apocalypse Now)

The posters are astounding expressions of folk art and skill, and give a unique insight into how the West is perceived and marketed in Ghana. The skill and style is suburb, and quite different from major studio posters. These are gorgeous artifacts, and the show appeals to art lovers and film geeks alike. We caught a preview last week with Brandon Boyd and Robert Williams (who wrote the book’s intro) and are going back for the public reception on November 20, 2013  from 7pm to 10pm.
