If you use summertime as an excuse to act / feel / dance like a kid again, good news: tickets are on sale now for Lightning in a Bottle, the popular outdoor music and arts festival and our choice for frolicking among installations and waterfalls in the summer heat. The five-day event will take place at Lake Skinner in Temecula, California.
Read “DoLaB Kick-Off: Lightning in a Bottle with Water Charity Pre-Party” by Tarah Arnold on CARTWHEEL. Plus we’ve got a preview of Shrine and the installations he’s building and a look at Altervision 3-D Blacklight Experience, plus Mindshare LA will be debuting at LIB with Mindshare Lounge and SmArt Workshops
At this year’s event, “Lightning in a Paintcan” will feature live painting by John Park, Max Neutra, Hans Haveron and plenty more, with the opportunity to purchase art to raise money for public art programs. View “Lightning in a Paintcan” video from 2012.
Past artful discoveries at Lightning in a Bottle include the installations by Shrine On that extract unceasing beauty from scrap materials. Shrine On recently built towers for Coachella using cat food cans and we can’t wait to see the (temporary) mark he makes on Lake Skinner. At Lightning in a Bottle 2012, Robert Moondragon‘s wonderful pieces were acquired for the CARTWHEEL collection (pictured above) and artist Scott O’Keefe’s mandala piece, assembled from organic materials and found objects, prompted a CARTWHEEL interview earlier this year: Artist Interview: Scott O’Keefe on Mandalas, Joshua Tree and MRSA.
Lightning in a Bottle begins July 11, 2013 and goes through July 15. In addition to art installations there is participatory art, performance art, games, three main stages for music and more. This is the first year the event is being held at Lake Skinner.
