Save the Date: World Art Day LA Programming: April 14th – April 17th

World Art Day, an international event sanctioned by IAA-UNESCO, takes place on April 15th, Leonardo Da Vinci’s birthday. The purpose of World Art Day is to celebrate international collaboration through art.

World Art Day: Los Angeles will be held over a 5-day window starting with an Opening Gala on April 13th, followed by several days of festivities kicked-off on the April 14th Art Walk, ending with a closing celebration on Sunday, April 17th, 2016, organized through Downtown Art Walk.

Downtown Art Walk, for the second year in a row, will be hosting projects in the form of gallery exhibitions, pop-ups, and site-specific installations in private or public spaces. Note: The VIP Opening Launch Gala, to be held on Wednesday, April 13th at 8th+Hope, from 6 to 10PM, benefiting the Downtown Art Walk, opened ticket sales yesterday. More details here.

Some of the highlights Cartwheel Art will be providing as programming are as follows:

Saturday April 16th (11:00am-1:30pm):
Cartwheel Art Tours x Atlas Obscura x The Gabba Gallery are offering a special Atlas Obscura Day & World Art Day Tour. This tour will be providing the opportunity for guests to immerse themselves through art in the following way:

– DISCOVER: the work of artists from the UK and LA, who have been influenced by British Culture. This is a sneak peek preview, highlighting the work by artists who are participating in the group art show \Brit-fluence(d)\.  There will also be a meet and greet with several of the artists., who will be joining us on the tour. Note: See more here about the artists featured in the \Brit-fluence(d)\ group art show, that officially opens on Saturday April 23rd.

– EXPLORE: the Gabba Arts District with curator Jason Ostoro. It’ s here where we will view the over eighty murals that canvas the alleyways, stairways dumpsters, gated fences and garage doors., all painted by international and LA artists.

– EXPERIENCE: Historic Filipnotown.

Sunday April 17th (1:00pm – 5:30pm): As the media sponsor for Dark Progressivism and to celebrate World Arts Day, Cartwheel Art presents three tours centering around the DTLA Arts District and the artists in the film. You can tour The Container Yard and see the film; take a walking tour of the Arts District with a stop for refreshments with a craft beer tasting at Angel City Brewery and learn about graffiti from graffiti historian and author Steve Grody who is featured in the film; or immerse yourself completely with combo tour and package. Ticket prices range from $15 to $35 depending on your choice of tours.
